Environmental engineering skills are in high demand and the UK jobs advertised for the environmental risk and sustainability sector in the first three months of last year is 50% more than in the whole of previous year. The Institute of Civil Engineers and the Chartered Institution of Water & Environmental Management have joined with UK Government to attract more flood & coastal engineers. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labour Statistics, the careers in the field of Environmental Engineering are expected to grow in USA by 15% by 2022. According to the UN, increasing climate, demographic (urbanisation), socio-economic and environmental changes are increasing the Engineering skill shortage worldwide to deliver UN’s Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and Sustainable Development Goals.

You will develop your expertise, gaining valuable experience through our Employability Challenge Weeks, our Leadership Challenge programme, Skill Development and Professional Development Work placement as well as various real life projects. These will give you the chance to apply your skills to innovative and deliver exciting projects. You’ll also receive industry talks, workshops and guidance on how to complete application forms and how to write effective CVs. Our degree provides a route into many civil and environmental engineering careers and supported by the Civil Engineering Industrial Advisory Board. Graduates from these courses will be able to work for government departments, environmental regulators (Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales and Scottish Environmental Protection Agency), local authorities, international development agencies and non-governmental organisations. Graduates will also be equipped to work for water, waste and energy companies and environmental and engineering consultancies such as Arup, Mott Macdonald, Atkins, JBA, Hyder, and Costain, as well as research organisations like HR Wallingford and CEH.
