Confederation College’s Child and Youth Care advanced diploma program will give you the skills and knowledge to become an effective support to children and their families. Courses cover a wide range of topics including trends in child and youth care, sociology of family, developmental psychology, crisis intervention, addictions, social welfare and exceptional children. Field placements will give you on-the-job training in a variety of environments. You’ll learn about the needs of these children in northwestern Ontario, the community services in place to help and how you can help make a positive impact on the lives of these youth who are currently struggling in some capacity.

Graduates of this program are qualified to pursue careers serving children, youth and their families. Settings include group homes, foster home networks, schools, youth justice programs, community outreach programs, addictions, early intervention and prevention programs, alternative to custody, diversion programs, shelters, home- and community-based programs, case management and adolescent treatment programs.
