This qualification is for students who wish to follow a career in Architecture, Interior, Product, Furniture or other 3D design related specialism’s. It allows you to explore the dynamic, exciting and creative relationship between art, design and the world around us. You will develop all of the necessary skills and knowledge required to begin your own creative career within a variety of 3D design subject areas. Through diverse practical project assignments, the Diploma will allow you to explore and develop skills, knowledge, concepts and understanding needed to become a successful designer. The skills learnt on the course are shared amongst a variety of different design disciplines and the diploma programme encourages you to look at the world (environments, spaces, products and objects) in a critical way and provides you with the understanding of how to make the world better through the use of creative design thinking. Design students have access to an extensive range of resources dedicated to the study of 3D design. Our facilities include a range of equipment that can be used for design development, model making, prototyping, computer modelling, graphics visualisation and the production of final pieces. Our industry standard CAD studio will allow you to explore the creative uses and potential of computers within your design projects. Software includes; SketchUp, Vectorworks, Photoshop and Illustrator. In the first year students will undertake practical design projects in the areas of Furniture design, Product design, Interior design and Architectural Design. In the second year students are encouraged to develop their portfolio with an emphasis on personal aspirations and an increased emphasis on specialist subject knowledge development, tailoring the second year of study to their own specific design pathways.
