History Awarding Body: AQA Assessment: AS – Two short, written tests (Units 1 & 2) and two written pieces of coursework then under exam conditions (Unit 3). A2 – Three short, written tests (Units 4, 5 & 6W). Course Introduction: Students will have the chance to learn about periods of history that they may not be familiar with. They will be able to learn about the significance of events, individuals, issues, the nature of societies and why these have changed over time. Students will also have the opportunity to research a topic in depth and focus on theories that try to make sense of the past. Students will also be able to develop their understanding of the nature of historical evidence and the analytical and evaluation methods used by historians, which will help them to develop their own skills in this area. This will be especially important when undertaking course work at A2. History is a subject that allows students to develop the many life skills which will be of immense benefit to them and it will also help them to make sense of the present.
