BA(Hons) Business (Team Entrepreneurship)

Course Description

Are you a self-starter who is highly motivated? A team player who can work on their own initiative? Do you find you learn best by doing things? And like working on different projects with different people? If so, this is the course for you.The BA(Hons) Business (Team Entrepreneurship) is an exciting new approach to studying and learning about business; by setting-up and running your own team company that will earn money finding and completing real projects for real organisations. Emphasis is placed upon 'team entrepreneurs' and not 'students'; 'learning' and not 'teaching'; 'coaches' and not 'teachers'; 'an open plan office' and not 'classrooms' and 'self-organising' rather then 'control'. In the first semester of your degree you will set-up a company with up to 20 fellow 'team entrepreneurs' and for the rest of the course, you and your fellow company members will run the business, generating income and learning from projects. By the time you graduate, you will have a network of contacts in the local business community and a great CV to accompany your degree. You will have specially trained team coaches on hand to provide you with support and guidance, as well as opportunities to draw on expertise from other parts of the Bristol Business School when your company needs it. There will also be a series of 'creative conversations' with a range of business people for you to draw upon. Although the Team Entrepreneurship approach is being introduced for the first time in the UK, it started in Finland nearly 20 years ago. Similar courses are also running in Spain, France and Hungary, providing opportunities for international visits and collaborations.

Career outcomes

The project-based learning on this course means you will graduate with a strong portfolio of practical, hands-on experience and clear evidence of your capabilities and initiative. You will be pioneering this approach in the UK and will be building your contacts with potential employers throughout your degree, as you undertake projects. In other European countries, such as Finland and Spain, where courses taking the team entrepreneurship approach have been running for longer, graduates enjoy higher than average employment prospects. In Finland in 2010, for example, 91% went on to secure graduate level employment within six months and after two years almost half were running their own business. UWE Bristol Business School graduates are employed in a wide range of roles, such as Marketing Executive, Events Manager, Key Account Manager, Public Relations Executive and Market Researcher. They work across private and public sector organisations including Lloyds TSB, Intel, Airbus, BBC and Avon and Somerset Constabulary. Almost three-quarters of UWE Bristol Business School undergraduates from the UK who studied on full-time and sandwich courses went on to secure graduate level employment in 2010. This was in a very competitive job market and demonstrates the high level of employability of our students.
