Course Description

Applied Environmental Studies Applied Environmental Studies, offered jointly by The University of Winnipeg and Red River College, is designed to provide you with both theoretical and applied knowledge in environmental analysis and problem solving. There are 4-year and 5-year versions of the program. 4-year Program: Students who enrol in the 4-year program will attend The University of Winnipeg in years one, two, and four, and will attend Red River College in year three. Those who successfully complete the 4-year program will receive a joint degree parchment from The University of Winnipeg and Red River College. 5-year Program: Students who enrol in the 5-year program will attend The University of Winnipeg in years one, two, and five, and Red River College for years three and four. The 5-year structure includes the benefit of a full co-op work term, consisting of a minimum of 16 weeks of full-time, paid work experience. Students who successfully complete the program will receive a 4-year Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Winnipeg and an Environmental Protection Technology diploma from Red River College.

SAMPLE CAREERS This program is specifically designed to serve the needs of health and science-based industries in Manitoba. With many thriving companies and agencies - such as Apotex, Biovail, McCains, Laidlaw, Agrifoods International, Enviro-Test Laboratories, Can Arnesta Foods, National Research Council, the Federal Disease Control/Virology Laboratory, Canadian Agra Corporation, Louisiana Pacific, Cabot Performance Materials, BFI Waste Systems, and Prairie Harvest Canada Ltd., to name a few - this need will continue in the coming years. There continues to be growth in the environmental job markets. The Environmental Careers Organization (ECO) Canada projects 16% growth over the next five years, in contrast to 8% growth in the overall Canadian job market.
