This is the only undergraduate course in Scotland that combines Fine Art with Philosophy, two subject areas in which we excel. The course provides a strong foundation to enable you to develop a successful career across the spectrum of creative industries. Our graduates have gone on to exhibit in major international arts venues, curate groundbreaking exhibitions, and undertake significant academic research at some of the top universities in the world. This course widens the choice of future pathways for artists and theorists. You are free to explore a wide range of mediums as your practice evolves. These may include: Painting Sculpture Printmaking Photography Film Installation Performance Sound Delivered by artists of international standing, this course embraces all areas of contemporary art practice. You will be supported to help develop your creative skills as you gain a conceptual and contextual understanding of visual culture. We offer opportunities to exhibit your work as you progress, culminating in our Degree Show in the final year. Our workshops are equipped to support your practice however you choose to develop it: Woodworking, from picture framing to complex sculptural constructions Printmaking, including etching, screenprint, lithography, and photographic processes Sculpture, including clay, plaster, metal, ceramics and bronze casting. Media labs for digital editing Green Screen studio for film and photography Sound Studio Darkrooms for analogue photography Digital Makers suite for 3-D and laser-cutting Philosophy modules introduce you to advanced philosophical approaches towards contemporary issues within art, ethics, film, literature, technology and the sciences. You will choose modules that develop your personal areas of interest and these will inform the theme of your Dissertation at Level 4, where you will be supported to undertake self-directed research. Students come from diverse backgrounds and multicultural perspectives, further enhancing the vitality of the course. The relatively small cohort fosters a deep sense of community and identity that is maintained beyond graduation. Students often work collaboratively, and some enter global networks that explore new advances in art practices and philosophy that will come to influence the cultural landscape of the future.
