Course Description

Is it true that due to information technology the classical market cycle does not function anymore as such? Do genes also define your future? Is the disadvantage of foreigners an economical, a cultural or maybe a religious problem? These and many other complex questions governing our cohabitation cannot be solved satisfyingly using the tools and knowledge of just a single discipline. A scientific solution to the environmental issue for example has economical, political and social consequences. There is a need for people who are acquainted with several disciplines and who possess a flexible mind, for figuring out such complex questions. If you wish to get to the bottom of your Bachelor’s programme and will enjoy the challenge of taking a look across the walls of scientific and social subjects, this Bachelor’s in Natural and Social Sciences is right for you. The programme is a combination of an interdisciplinary study programme and a graduation course in the field of Natural and Social Sciences. During the core curriculum, you will systematically get acquainted with several disciplines. Together with your mentor, you then decide upon a curriculum that suits your interest and comprising elements of both natural and social sciences. From the first year onwards, there is the possibility to take elective courses. From the second year onwards, you will start with a natural science or social science course, alonside your core curriculum. During the third year, you will focus more on subjects that are useful for the Master’s programme you might take after obtaining your Bachelor’s. You will also gain work experience and follow part of your studies abroad. Interdisciplinary topics are a connecting theme throughout the programme. These topics are arranged to gradually become more and more complex. Interdisciplinary issues fascinate the teachers of the Bachelor’s programme. During some courses, different lecturers teach in a team, so that students will experience how specialists form differing disciplines handle a question and discuss it among them. The Bachelor’s in Natural and Social Sciences is meant for students who find it a challenge to cooperate intensively in a study group of students and teachers. Arrangements regarding the programme are outlined in an annual study contract. Fixed elementsof the programme include an interview, a programme recommendation after four months, and periodical consultation with your mentor about your study progress. After successfully completing the programme, you will be awarded the title Bachelor of Arts (BA) of Bachelor of Science (BSc), depending on your curriculum.
