Certificate(Machinist Technician)

Course Description

The Machinist Technician program includes the material from the first and second year Machinist apprenticeship periods, as well as some additional machining and manufacturing techniques including a significant Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) component. Students are provided with theoretical and practical instruction in operating and setting up machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses and CNC equipment. Considerable attention is paid to handson training, with over 50 per cent of students' time spent in a shop/lab setting. Topics such as blueprint reading, trade mathematics, metallurgy, computer-aided manufacturing, computer-aided design and welding are also covered.
