BA International and Development Economics

Course Description

Richmond's BA in International and Development Economics provides students with the opportunity to develop their interests in a number of lively and current areas in relation to the operation of the world economy. Today's complex economic environment is captured by the course content that seeks to integrate and combine elements of 'international' economics with those from 'development' economics. The international aspects of economics deal with commodities, trade, finance, international agreements, etc. Those aspects of economics dealing with development generally focus on matters such as the role of international institutions in alleviating poverty; the connections between political instability and famine; the root causes of migration; and measuring the impact of primary education on economic development, to name just a few! These issues provide challenges to policy makers and students will be encouraged to think about ways to assess and design solutions to these challenges.
