Course Description

This Certificate provides students with a six-month programme of study in academic skills. These focus on introducing students to the requirements of academic study at a tertiary level. It aims to produce graduates who are capable of undertaking academic studies in the field of their choice. The core modules are designed to introduce students to the rigours of studying at a tertiary level. In the Academic Skills module students learn about finding, assessing and analysing information, referencing, working in groups, study skills such as note-taking, exam preparation, etc. In the Data Analysis module, basic mathematical skills are introduced and practiced, while in the Information Technology module students become familiar with use of word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software along with how to use the Internet to source information and to communicate effectively. The elective modules allow students to learn terms and underlying principles in their chosen field of study.
