Course Details

Bsc(Materials Engineering)

Course Description

Materials engineering faculty on campus have participated in projects that provided ceramic bone implants for animals, developed non-degrading fibers for surgical use, produced microchips for microelectronics, and established environmentally friendly applications for magnetic refrigeration. Though Iowa State’s engineering program is one of the nation’s largest, the student to faculty ratio in materials engineering is six to one. This means that you have the opportunity to work closely with faculty on innovative projects. Our faculty hold more than 170 patents for inventions relating to materials engineering. They have obtained more than $15 million in annual research funds. You will also have opportunities to study with distinguished international faculty by studying at one of many international universities through the study abroad program.
