The Arabic Studies/Islamic Studies programme will provide students with the knowledge necessary to develop sources within the Arabic-Islamic cultural world on their own. During the first year, the focus is on learning the basics of the Arabic language. Lectures provide students a glimpse of the fundamentals of the Islamic religion, history and intellectual history as well as Islamic law and Arabic-Islamic culture and literature. During the second year of study, students will improve their Arabic language abilities while simultaneously learning how to handle source texts and aids during some of the first seminar courses. In the third year, students will be taught how to independently develop resources that will prove useful during their bachelor thesis. Good English and French skills are recommended and a language exchange programme in an Arabic country can also be advantageous.
