Historians examine past social and cultural conditions to gain a special knowledge about humanity. JCU specialises in the history of northern Queensland and has extensive historical collections. This course covers both Australian and world history.

There is a long list of job opportunities for History graduates, from working for government bodies to working in museums and galleries. Some recent History graduates have become: * documentary filmmakers * journalists * curators. While others have chosen more traditional paths gaining employment in: * historical tourism * native title work * heritage management * speech writing * political advisorship * teaching (to become a history teacher you must complete a one-year post-graduate education qualification).
