This course is a unique and exciting opportunity to explore visual communication in the context of digital media. It provides a well-balanced insight into understanding multimedia design. For the designer entering this course, it is about creatively engaging with a variety of new media applications and processes to create innovative digital design solutions to communicate on different digital platforms. The course is focused around contemporary design practices that make use of all new media technologies, from interactive web-based media to motion graphics. Engaging with the latest industry standard software applications, each student is encouraged to explore and take risks with static and moving imagery, sound and text. This exploration is about pushing the boundaries beyond traditional expectations and taking time-based media to the next level, wherever that may be. The course aims to develop students’ critical awareness of professional design practice, whilst the environment is also conducive to aiding the realisation of a personal creative vision. The diversity of your peer group in this situation will both challenge and engage each designer to articulate their concepts coherently, both in individual pursuits and those of a team-based setting in written and digital forms. Within the evolutionary realm of digital media practice, the role of the multimedia designer is in a constant state of flux. Having the ability to comfortably manoeuvre between media will generate greater opportunity for employment in the digital communication industry. Graduates may be employed in one of the following areas: animation, motion graphics designer (film and television title sequence design), computer games design, web design/online production and broadcast design (video editing, screen advertising).

Having progressed to completing this honours degree you will have become a creative, informed and highly skilled designer, ready to work in the design and multimedia industries. On entry to the graphic design or related professions, you will be capable of working as a team member displaying up-to-date knowledge and skills in multidisciplinary areas.
