Course Description

The Division of Performing Arts teaches and nurtures passionate individuals in their development as critical thinkers and performing artists in an ever-changing world. Whether you are pursuing an academic major or minor or are looking for a creative outlet, you have an opportunity to be involved with Performing Arts at Alfred. Participation in productions and performance groups is open to all students, regardless of academic major. The Division of Performing Arts offers a major in Theatre and minors in Theatre, Dance, Music and Performance Design and Technology. We encourage you to participate in one or more disciplines, gaining exciting and valuable performance experiences in a wide variety of areas. Performing Arts has partnered with the School of Business, Interdisciplinary Art Program and the School of Art and Design to offer a minor in Arts Management.

Career outcomes

Whether working in the performing arts or pursuing graduate study, our alumni have become successful in all areas. Some examples of their accomplishments include: Recruitment by the National Shakespeare Company and The Merry-Go-Round theatre Landing the role of Masetto in Mozart's Don Giovanni in the Rome Festival, Rome Italy Choreographing the off-Broadway musical Blue Angel House Manager at the professional Magic Theatre, and also a technical apprentice for the San Francisco Opera Directing the world premiere of playwright Richard Willett's The Flid Show, which opened off-Broadway in the fall of 2003 Pursing graduate degrees at top institutions, for example, University of California - Irvine, Yale, American University, and the University of Michigan Technical director for the Yale Repertory Theatre
