Duration: Four years full-time; five years sandwich Mechanical engineers play an important role in many of the products in the world around us. This involvement can range from design, manufacture and development, through to the management or marketing of products. With a degree in Mechanical Engineering, you have the opportunity to use your skills in whatever sector you wish. The early years of this BEng Mechanical Engineering course share elements with the aerospace and automotive engineering degrees. So after developing a strong grounding in the fundamentals of engineering, there's the option to transfer onto one of these. As you progress, you will increase your understanding of stress analysis, dynamics, heat transfer, mechatronics, materials and manufacture together with learning industry standard software before you specialise in your final year. Throughout the course, you will get lots of hands-on experience testing theories in our well-equipped laboratories.

On graduation, your combined understanding of maths, science, technology, business and management can lead to a broad range of careers all over the world. Consulting and contracting jobs are available in the design, implementation, operation and maintenance of equipment and machinery. These are in industries such as manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, pharmaceutical, energy and water. If you are interested in business or commerce, a mechanical engineering degree is also highly regarded in finance, IT and management.
