Duration: Three Years, Four Years Sandwich Criminology gives you a deep understanding of crime and criminal justice in the real world, the subject complements and contextualises legal study, and is an extremely useful addition to those looking to practice criminal law or work in the criminal justice system. This flexible course brings together expertise and cutting-edge teaching in Criminology and Law at UWE Bristol to explore the relationship through topical modules spanning criminal justice, penology and sexual offences and offending. You will gain a solid grounding in criminological research methods and practice and develop valuable legal skills such as mooting and negotiating alongside your academic studies. Criminology and Law students are highly valued by employers due to the broad skillset and knowledge base gained from studying the subjects and the degree combination leads naturally to a career in Criminal Law. If you major in Law, you may decide to pursue a legal career as solicitor, barrister, legal advisor, legal executive or paralegal although there is also scope to enter a wide range of careers in HR, finance, teaching, advice and charity work and in the public sector. Many students progress to train as a barrister or solicitor through the BPTC or LPC or undertake further study relevant to a specialism with an LLM in Commercial Law, Human Rights and International Law. If you major in Criminology you may pursue careers in research, education, social work, counselling, charity work and healthcare. There are also many opportunities within the police, prison and court services, as well as legal sector.
