Duration: Three years full-time; four years sandwich Studying Biomedical Science provides you with the scientific knowledge underpinning an understanding of the biology of disease, and its application to diagnose disease and evaluate the effectiveness of treatments. You will develop skills that are at the forefront of advances in medical science and build the analytical, problem-solving and communication abilities needed for rewarding careers in areas such as medical research, consultancy, education and management. Accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS), BSc(Hons) Biomedical Science at UWE Bristol offers a hands-on approach to learning. Based around a strong foundation in modern biomedicine including basic scientific core subjects together with a study of the biomedical science specialist subjects, integrated through a study of the biology of disease, you will gain wide-ranging experience as well as having the flexibility to develop expertise in the areas that interest you most. Our students graduate with the knowledge, skills and practical experience to make a valuable contribution to the health of the community. The majority of our graduates follow careers in biomedical sciences in particular, research and development work in the healthcare, pharmaceutical and education sectors. As well as research and laboratory-based jobs in the public and private sectors, the course equips you with the transferable skills demanded by employers recruiting for a wide variety of roles from medical sales and scientific writing to quality control and heath and safety. Some graduates have used their qualification to successfully support applications for mature entry to medicine degrees, while many choose to continue their studies with MPhil/PhD research degrees or Master's courses.
