(BA, BS) Music and Sound Recording

Course Description

Music and Sound Recording A little over a century ago, if you wanted to listen to music, you had to be in the same room as the musician. Now you can be anywhere at all. The science of how we experience the art of music has revolutionized people’s lives — a revolution that shifted into warp speed when sound recording went from analog to digital. With our bachelor’s programs in music and sound recording, you can be an integral part of that revolution. Understand both the art and the science. Our unique 4-year bachelor’s programs are based on a simple premise: If you’re a musician, you should have a working knowledge of the media through which your art is heard. And if you’re a sound recordist, you should have a working knowledge of the art form you are recording. This breadth of knowledge will give you an edge over other music professionals who focus only on their own area. In the Bachelor of Arts program, you’ll study three interrelated areas: Music history, theory, and aesthetics Musicianship Sound recording methodology and technique In the Bachelor of Science program, your studies will be similar to those in the B.A. program, but you’ll get a stronger grounding in the science and technology of recording through classes in calculus, physics, and electrical engineering.
