Our specialist electronic systems course, MEng Telecommunication Engineering, has a particular emphasis on radio frequency circuits and systems, analogue and data communications and computer networks, and the communication of audio-visual information. We also include modules in traditional electronics such as signal processing, circuit design, processors and software. In the final year, more advanced aspects of telecommunication systems are studied, including laboratories with optical fibre and millimetre wave transmission systems. All students taking our BEng and existing MEng courses can apply to be student members of the Institution of Electrical Engineers. For new degrees we apply for interim accreditation. If you join as a student member you will be automatically transferred to the class of Member of the IET (MIEE) when you graduate. After some further study (for example an MSc) and a number of years in a responsible position (meaning you will typically be in your early thirties), you can apply to be become a Chartered Engineer.
