FdSc Health Studies (Care of the Adult) is a work-related, nationally recognised qualification for people currently working in the health and social care sector as assistants in a variety of settings. Our objectives are to: 1. Widen access to accredited programmes for existing NHS staff and new recruits to enable them to fulfil the role of Adult Care Practitioner safely and competently; 2. Create flexible, inter-professional learning pathways to bridge the skill gaps of the NHS workforce while meeting the learning needs and aspirations of individuals; and 3. Develop and sustain personal effectiveness by developing self awareness, confidence and autonomy, while maximising and formalising practice-based learning opportunities and expertise. You attend University every Thursday (9.30am to 4pm) which will involve instructional teaching and tutorials. You may be expected to log in at times and take part in online discussion forums. You will have short work placements based with the local NHS hospital and primary care trusts. We work closely in partnership with the National Health Service and the independent health sector. You will have 12 days placement over this two-year programme, based with the local NHS hospital and primary care trusts. We also work closely with the NHS East of England in the development and delivery of innovative and professionally relevant clinical programmes and modules. Our course will suit you if you are interested in an academic understanding of how people work within health care, but do not want to fix a specific health career path yet. Our course provides you with a sophisticated understanding of health and health care, and is suitable preparation for all health careers, as well as being the basis for a wide variety of caring professions. It also forms the basis for future fast-track graduate conversion within our School into caring professions such as nursing (adult and mental health), occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and speech and language therapy. Our course also offers the flexibility to seek other careers in health and care, for example health promotion, health services management or social work.
