From the emergence of democracy to the Crusades: explore the ancient and medieval foundations of the modern world. Students can discover the continuities and change from the emergence of Athenian democracy to the glories of renaissance Italy; from the expansion of the Roman Empire to the Christian crusades of the Middle Ages; and from the great epics of Homer to the sublime poetry of Dante. The BA Joint Honours degree in Ancient and Medieval History is a well-established degree programme taught by ancient historians and medievalists from the College of Arts and Humanities. It is designed to examine civilisations that may appear distant, but remain influential in our own time. The cultural, political, and social landscapes of the modern world are deeply rooted in the ancient and medieval world. The BA in Ancient and Medieval History is designed to explore this legacy in all its richness. Students have the option of taking part in the College of Arts and Humanities Literacy programme with Local primary schools through the Schools Literacy Scheme with Swansea City Local Education Authority.
