Course Description

The MSci Computer Science offers a new route into jobs in industry and academia. It suits individuals who want to pursue a career in which they solve problems using rigorous scientific principles. It provides an integrated Masters level degree. The first three years of the MSci Computer Science are the same as the BSc in Computer Science, which makes it easy to transfer from one to the other. In the fourth year students undertake a large scientific project drawing on the research strengths of the department in the areas of Human Computer Interaction, Theoretical Computer Science and Visual Computing (Graphics, Vision, Data Science and Visualization). The aim is to solve a problem using principles such as: examining and reviewing the current approaches in the literature, exploring the theoretical background to the problem in order to find suitable solutions, implementing an approach or specifying and proving the suitability of the approach, and rigorous testing of the approach with regard to performance.
