Students choosing Healthcare Science (Audiology) will undertake a rigorous educational programme, involving both theoretical and clinical learning, to become an audiologist or hearing aid dispenser. The discipline involves the study of hearing, balance and the pathological conditions that can affect these sensory organs. Students will learn how to assess hearing capacity and balance function and the clinical nature of the course will provide the practical skills needed for employment in the profession. A large part of the work involves the assessment of hearing capacity followed by rehabilitation of impairment. This is largely achieved by fitting, verification and adjustment of hearing aids and then training patients on how to use the hearing aids effectively.
