Often an organisation’s success or failure relies on how effectively it uses existing and emerging technologies. Information technology management takes control of these technologies and uses them to give organisations the advantage in competitive environments. This course Prepare for a career as a ‘hybrid’ manager – someone who is able to apply technical knowledge as a business manager – on a course designed in partnership with employers. The course focuses on teaching you skills which follow best industry practices in IT service management, design, implementation and operation of IT systems. You develop skills and knowledge in • the latest technologies • service management • management • marketing • finance. These make sure you are well prepared for a career in business consultancy or IT management. Throughout the course you work with real clients, mainly local companies, to deliver projects that improve their businesses. With guidance you learn to develop a team, create and manage projects and provide solutions for real work problems. You learn through lectures, seminars and workshops. Workshops include teamwork on problem-solving tasks and group and individual assignments. You learn through case studies and live projects giving you a real understanding of the business context, which reduces the time companies have to spend training you as a graduate. During year three, you have the opportunity to apply what you’ve learnt with a one year paid work placement in industry. This is a great opportunity to gain new skills, making you more attractive to employers after you graduate and more likely to earn a higher starting salary. At the end of your placement you may even get the offer of a permanent job after your degree.
