During the course you use your existing construction experience to prepare for a career in the built environment. You gain core knowledge and skills relevant to construction engineering and management, as well as essential employability skills needed by employers. This helps prepare you for work in the modern international business arena of construction engineering. Key areas of study include • the various elements and structural behaviour of building forms • calculations and solutions for simple foundation design over a range of soil types • current thinking on the environmental impact of the built environment on local and global communities and associated sustainability issues • strategies in managing resources to deliver successful projects. You then go on to use what you have learnt to complete a research project in the form of a dissertation.
