Japan has long been and will continue to be one of Australia's major trading partners. Murdoch's Japanese program has produced a large number of "Japan specialists" who are acting as a bridge between the two countries. Evidence suggests that employers favour prospective employees who are fluent in more than one language, in light of the increasing globalisation of business. Take advantage of our strong Japanese connections The Japanese major is open to beginners and to those with some knowledge of the language. Your study will consist of interactive Japanese language study, fostering the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. You are encouraged to combine this with a major in Asian Studies, to strengthen appreciation of Japan's historical, political, economic and cultural context, and its global engagement. If you wish to specialise in Japanese, you may add an additional fourth year of study in Japan at one of Murdoch's exchange partner universities.
