Integrated Land Planning Technologies is a unique, four-year, applied degree program that presents the theory and practice of landscape architecture, urban design and urban planning with an emphasis on the use of geographic information systems (GIS). Sustainability based on an eco-logical understanding of human and natural communities is advocated. Students acquire specialized knowledge complemented by advanced technical design and communication skills. They apply the latest methods and digital techniques arising out of geographic information systems (GIS), computer-aided design (CAD) and visualization to creatively and effectively explore and communicate planning and design problems, opportunities and ideas. Such opportunities are addressed through outreach programs and case studies that advocate and promote a synthesis of subject knowledge and methods. Academic projects and three compulsory work terms provide students with the opportunity to apply their integrated learning and gain valuable practical experience, locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. Graduates leave the program capable of responding to contemporary planning and design problems requiring interdisciplinary solutions and with experience solving real problems like those they will encounter as practicing physical planning and design professionals in the private and public sectors. Fanshawe College has been granted a consent by the Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities to offer this applied degree program for a five-year term starting May, 2009. The College shall ensure that all students admitted to the above-named program during the period of consent will have the opportunity to complete the program within a reasonable time frame.
