Graduate Diploma in Applied Arts

Course Description

The Graduate Diploma in Applied Arts is intended for students who have: *already completed a first degree in related areas of study and wish to extend their work into new areas or genres; or *substantial relevant creative experience in lieu of a degree; or *a place in an approved international exchange programme - their results would be cross-credited back to their main qualification in their homeland Whitireia has offered arts programmes since 1986, building a strong teaching staff of industry professionals as well as a track record of success for our graduates. The Graduate Diploma in Applied Arts is based on the papers of the Whitireia Bachelor of Applied Arts, which has majors in Music, Performing Arts, and Visual Arts and Design (There is a separate Graduate Diploma in Creative Writing). BAppA graduates have gone on to become published writers, arts exhibitors and art museum professionals, international touring performers and members of leading NZ bands. We look forward to adding your story to our list of successful graduates. The Graduate Diploma is worth 120 credits, and is normally taken full-time over one year. The content includes a major Body of Work, worth 60 credits, plus three 20-credit papers chosen from Research and Presentation, Creative Enterprise, Special Topic (two available); or other degree papers with the approval of the Dean. Our teaching staff are well qualified and committed to encouraging quality student learning. Each major has well equipped specialist rooms and facilities. We want you to succeed and we will do all we can to support you in your efforts. The polytechnic’s services include an excellent library with computers and Internet access, academic support and peer tutoring.
