Bachelor of Applied Arts (Performing Arts)

Course Description

The Performing Arts major of the Bachelor of Applied Arts is a three year programme. The programme provides a strong base in Māori, Samoan, Cook Islands and NZ contemporary dance performance. Students are encouraged to develop their own strengths in technique, performance and choreography. Modules include: Samoan dance performance Māori dance performance Cook Islands dance performance NZ contemporary dance performance Creative technique Professional studies Creative enterprise Contextual studies In the third year students research and create a major body of work which will be presented publicly. Performance and touring internationally are significant parts of the Performing Arts programme. Students must successfully pass all modules to graduate with a Bachelor of Applied Arts (Performing Arts). Students who pass two years of the degree may exit with a Diploma in Performing Arts.

Career outcomes

Graduates develop careers as performers and choreographers within the dance and cultural tourism industries. Graduates are equipped to develop and manage their own projects, or to join professional companies or shows. Graduates will be qualified to move into postgraduate study as arts educators.
