Course Description

The History and Philosophy Department at Troy boasts a qualified faculty who offers a wide array of courses spanning the entire historical experience. The faculty is dedicated to developing within students the skills of critical thinking and rigorous research through the study of past human endeavor. Our professors insist on high standards so that our students can develop and graduate with skills that will enable them to excel in a myriad of future endeavors. Our undergraduate student body includes more than two hundred History majors and more than a hundred minors, some taking courses in the classroom and others pursuing an education online. Undergraduates majoring in History select from among three emphases, American/Latin American, European/Asian/African, and Public History. Troy University also offers a History Education major for students seeking a career in secondary education. For the many students intrigued with history but determined to major in another discipline, the Department includes a popular History Minor. Many of Troy’s history students participate in the school’s History Clubs and in its chapters of the Phi Alpha Theta History Honors Society, which sponsors and annually publishes the Alexandrian, a journal of student publications in history. Troy’s history professors are qualified scholars committed to publishing in their fields and imparting their expertise to students taking their classes. They publish meaningful articles in prestigious journals and provide editing services and expertise for them, too. Our faculty has produced books published by the world’s best academic presses, including Cambridge University Press, Ohio State University Press, Praeger, University of Alabama Press, and University Press of Kansas.
