Africana studies involve the research, interpretation and dissemination of knowledge concerning African-American, African and Caribbean affairs and cultures. Western Michigan University's program is interdisciplinary and comparative, and leads to a degree in Africana studies with an emphasis in either black studies or African studies. Students will examine the structure, organization, problems and perspectives of blacks in America. They will be prepared to think critically, express themselves creatively, respect cultural diversity and make independent contributions to the growth of the world community. WMU's Africana studies program provides meaningful training for students from any racial, ethnic or cultural background.
