National Certificate in Farming Skills (Work Ready)

Course Description

This programme is designed to give our students a mix of essential skills needed to start a career in agriculture, it is suitable for students with little or no farm experience. Students choose to specialise in either sheep or dairy with the programme then split into three strands – theory, technical skills and practical farm work. This helps our students to gain a good mix of essential skills and knowledge – In the classroom, in the workshop and on the farm. Students spend the first 20 weeks with their tutor and then have the opportunity to finish their training in employment or on work experience placement, with regular tutor visits for their final unit completion.

Career outcomes

Career Options: General Shepherd, Farm Assistant, Agricultural Contractor or Sales Representative. A graduate will also be able to provide short-term cover for more senior staff in some areas of farm operation.
