Drug mechanisms and drug discovery are pervasive, high-priority themes cutting across multiple areas of funded biomedical research. The goal of the pharmacology minor is to provide students with a fundamental knowledge of the core concepts and basic research tools in the study of drug action. * The pharmacology minor includes graduate level courses (7 course credits) in basic concepts and general principles of pharmacology, and mechanisms of drug action relevant to the doctoral specialty of the candidate. * Enrollment in the minor will be elected by the student and approved at the discretion of both the student's PhD-granting program and the coordinating committee of the minor. The course requirements of the minor may satisfy, substitute or supplement requirements of each PhD-granting program at the discretion of that program. * Recognition of satisfactory completion of the requirements of the pharmacology minor (B grade or better in all coursework, passed qualifying examination) will take the form of a formal letter from the Graduate School accompanying the student’s transcript.

* Be fluent in the fundamental principles underlying the distribution, metabolism, mechanism of action and toxicity of therapeutic agents or substances. * Be competent in their knowledge of basic concepts in drug discovery principles.
