The Committee on Development, Regeneration, and Stem Cell Biology (DRSB) takes an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the fundamental questions of how a single cell, the fertilized egg, ultimately produces the fully patterned adult organism, as well as how adult tissue homeostasis is maintained by stem cells. More than 35 faculty from both basic science and clinical departments in the Division of Biological Sciences belong to DRSB. Their research uses traditional model species (e.g., nematodes, fruit flies, Arabidopsis, zebrafish, amphibians, chick, and mouse) and non-traditional model systems (e.g., lampreys and cephalopods). Areas of research focus include stem cell biology, developmental genetics, regeneration, the cellular basis of morphogenesis, developmental neurobiology, and "evo-devo."
