The minor in Clinical Biochemistry gives you the option to select just that one area of medical laboratory science to study. The graduate of the entire clinical laboratory science program is called a "generalist" and can practice in the areas of clinical biochemistry, hematology, transfusion services, immunology and clinical microbiology. The Clinical Biochemistry minor allows study in clinical biochemistry, without taking all of the program courses. It includes general principles of human physiology and clinical laboratory operation as well as clinical biochemistry-related topics such as toxicology and drug testing, enzyme kinetics, immunochemistry, lipid, protein, and carbohydrate testing, tumor markers, biochemical pathologies, etc. You can complete the minor by taking courses offered on campus. Pre-requisites include one year of general chemistry. Organic chemistry is highly recommended Grades of C or better are required in all courses applicable to the minor.
