The Master of Education (M.Ed.) offers two professional degree programs for practicing educators committed to their own professional development as 21st Century educators in the classroom, school building, or school district. The program offers both licensure and non-licensure specialization paths designed to enhance the expertise of PK–12 educators. * Curriculum and Instruction * Educational Leadership Students may elect to enroll in a degree program, work toward re-certification of a professional license, or update their knowledge for professional development. Courses are offered via distance education, primarily online, with an emphasis on fieldwork to be conducted in in your classroom, school, or district. M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) This program prepares graduates to develop, implement, and monitor teaching and learning. Specializations include: * Special Education Leadership * Teaching and Learning The program encourages exposure to diverse PreK-12 curricular issues and emphasizes the integration of technological tools and digital resources with the processes of teaching and learning. A degree requires students to complete a combined total of 36 credit hours with 21 credit-hours in core components and 15 credit-hours in specialization courses. This program does not lead to licensure. M.Ed. in Educational Leadership This program prepares graduates with the skills necessary for effective school building and school district leadership. Successfully completing the program qualifies graduates for three West Virginia licensures as a Pre K–Adult Principal, General Supervisor, and Superintendent. The program is nationally recognized by the Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC) and National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). A Master of Education in Educational Leadership requires students to complete a combined total of 39 credit hours with 21 credit-hours in core components and 18 credit-hours in content specialization and internship based courses.
