Course Description

Since humankind first learned to walk it has been driven to better understand the world around it. Pittsburg State’s biology program distills this natural curiosity to its essence and then focuses it on the mysteries of life. Students will enjoy a multi-disciplinary and comprehensive overview of the biological sciences that will allow them to pursue interests in: Pre-medical – Preparation for entry into medical schools (medical, osteopathic medicine, optometry, dental, veterinary) or graduate medical research programs. Pre-physical therapy - Preparation for entry into further specialization in physical and occupational therapy. Cell and molecular biology – Preparation for graduate school or entry-level employment in biotechnology. Medical technology – Preparation for clinical work in hospitals or private labs. Field Ecology and Organismal Biology - Preparation for working in a variety of agencies, conservation organizations, and for gaining expertise with many organisms, both plant and animal. Plant physiology/plant molecular biology – Preparation for careers in industry or for graduate research. Students choosing the pre-professional programs can earn the Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. Students choosing the Medical Technology program can earn the Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology degree. This degree includes a fourth clinical year although students may also choose to perform their clinical experience after graduation.
