Course Description

Whether your interest lies in journalism, creative writing, literature, publishing, law, or teaching, the English Department on Pace University’s New York City campus offers a BA in English with three concentrations, which allows you to double major in related fields. You may also apply for the sequential BA in English / MS in Publishing program. Our programs will help you open doors in virtually any field, such as journalism, publishing, communications, business, the arts, law, and education. Minors in English, creative writing, journalism, and translation studies are offered. As an English major, you will be guided by our outstanding faculty of authors, editors, and world-renowned scholars with diverse research interests and expertise. Beyond the classroom, you will have the opportunity to learn from prominent poets and authors who visit campus, publish your own work in Aphros, our literary magazine, and gain hands-on experience working on The Pace Press, our undergraduate student newspaper. We offer a mentoring program, internship opportunities, and an annual writing contest. Whether you are an English major or take our courses as part of the core curriculum, you will develop skills that are in demand in today’s competitive job market: top-notch writing, insightful critical analysis, and clear, organized thinking. Tracks / Concentrations: Literature Concentration Students in the literature concentration study a wide range of texts, from medieval to contemporary poems, plays, short stories, and novels. The concentration provides excellent preparation for graduate study in English, law, or humanities as well as the skill set to pursue a wide variety of careers. Writing and Literature Concentration In addition to studying literature, students write news stories, feature articles, poetry, fiction, nonfiction, plays, and screenplays under the guidance of faculty members who are noted New York writers. Literature and Culture Concentration In this interdisciplinary track, students take courses in Women’s and Gender Studies and Film and Screen Studies, as well as writing and literature. This also allows students to double-major in these related fields.
