Course Description

Graduates in Environmental Science will take advantage of the widespread opportunities provided by our society’s preservation and regulatory interests. Environmental students have the opportunity to use Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to map features of ecosystems ranging from forests to wetlands. Students also learn the essentials of database management and develop an expertise in Geographic Information Systems software used to view and manage an array of digital maps, images, and features. The NRE department utilizes the most current instrumentation so students can assess the environmental quality of a system under study. Students of Environmental Science can complete internships to receive real world experience from government agencies, private environmental companies, and public interest groups such as watershed coalitions. Recent graduates have been accepted into prestigious graduate programs or found employment in the environmental divisions of a number of state, federal, and private environmental agencies.
