Course Description

Civil engineers play a critical role in human safety and security, from the design and construction of buildings, bridges, and roads to safeguarding water and other natural resources through sustainable design. Civil engineering students and faculty at Johns Hopkins are using their expertise to tackle – and solve – the world’s most pressing environmental, social, and economic challenges. Civil engineering, more than any other engineering discipline, is tied to society and our day-to-day lives. It plays a critical role in our safety and security and includes everything from the design and construction of buildings, bridges, and roads to securing our water resources and fragile coastlines and understanding the relationship of people and nature with the constructed environment. Many of today’s most pressing social, economical, and environmental problems are being addressed-and solved-by civil engineers, including students and faculty at Johns Hopkins.
