B.A., Major in Broadcasting, Visual and Interactive Media

Course Description

The Department of Communication and The Arts, located in the College of Arts and Sciences at Seton Hall University, now offers a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Broadcasting, Visual and Interactive Media that enables you to select from an array of options in media, performance and graphic presentation. The curriculum provides a focused study in specific areas of communication: multimedia and the Web, desktop publishing, computer graphics, and television, radio and film production. Experienced faculty working in the fields of broadcasting and visual media creates the best educational environment for our students. Because of the small faculty/student ratio, students have greater access to equipment and facilities as well as faculty contact, advising and mentoring. Our facilities are dedicated for student use; the television studio and computer labs are state-of-the-art. Partial scholarships, includes the Lushkis scholarship, are available. The department also offers co-curricular experiences with student-oriented activities such as WSOU 89.5 FM radio and Pirate TV. The Broadcasting, Visual and Interactive Media major stresses a thorough understanding of media as social instruments are emphasizing responsibility, professionalism and ethics, as well as hands-on practical experience in all aspects of communication technology. It consists of seven different tracks of study. Students who concentrate in film, television and radio production and media studies share a common 24 credits of requirements, as well as complete 21 credits in their concentration for a total of 45 credits. Students who concentrate in desktop publishing, multimedia and the Web and computer graphics share a common 22 credits of requirement, as well as complete 24 credits in their concentration for a total of 46 credits. Students are encouraged to take internships to complement their educational experience. To graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting, Visual and Interactive Media, students must successfully complete the requirements for one of the seven tracks, as well as the College of Arts and Sciences core curriculum. Students must also complete a senior seminar (capstone) in their area of concentration.
