Course Description

Industrial engineers learn to use people, machines, materials, information and energy to efficiently and profitably make a product or provide a service. Students in Gannon University’s industrial engineering (IE) program can choose one of six concentrations offered in the program. They are: economics and financial systems ergonomics and human factors healthcare systems international industrial engineering production engineering supply chain and logistics systems The IE program allows students the flexibility to collaborate with other areas on campus, such as mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, the Dahlkemper School of Business, the Small Business Development Center and the Erie Technology Incubator. This program will teach students to become leaders in IE as they learn key components of the field, such as designing efficient and safe working environments. The industrial engineering program at Gannon offers flexibility in a cross-disciplinary environment. Examples of courses in this program include: IE 310: Work Design The design and implementation of a production system is used to provide a fundamental understanding of work design and performance improvement concepts, tools and techniques. Topics include applied anthropometry, charting techniques, work methods, performance measurements, workplace organization and visual controls and human factors. IE 410: Ergonomics Fundamentals of work design ground the student in human factors and ergonomics. Topics covered in this course include applied job design, manual material handling, cumulative trauma disorders, hand tool design, design of controls and displays, and ergonomic and human factors of product design. IE 420: Supply Chain and Logistics Engineering Gain an understanding of the decision-making tools necessary to design value in the global supply chain from concept to customer. Quantitative methods are applied to demand forecasting and enterprise planning to increase profit and value for stakeholders. Basic concepts in strategy, forecasting and value stream mapping will be taught. Liberal Studies Core The Liberal Studies Core Curriculum is one reflection of Gannon University's commitment to its Catholic identity. The Core's design offers students a defined, integrated, shared experience as the foundation for their undergraduate program.
