Bachelor of Arts in Psychology

Course Description

Psychology is the discipline that studies behavior and mental processes from a scientific perspective. Psychology examines the inner workings of the brain, the influence of environments on individuals, and the relationships between people. Using scientific methods, psychologists develop theories about behavior and mental processes, and then test their ideas using data generated by their investigations. The Psychology program at CSUB offers students a broad range of perspectives, methodologies, and bodies of knowledge from contemporary psychology. This foundation facilitates the development of skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for better understanding our world and for professional preparation as behavioral scientists and professionals providing clinical services to others. CSU Bakersfield offers a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Psychology as well as a minor in Psychology. The Psychology Department also offers a Master of Science (M.S.) degree program in Counseling Psychology to prepare students to become Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT) and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (LPCC).
