The Architecture major creates a rich academic environment marked by the confluence of advanced practice, contemporary theory, and social engagement. Our primary goal is to help students develop the capacity and judgment necessary to understand the built environment and generate architecture as a critical response, so that each student can engage both the discipline of architecture and the multiple discourses - artistic, technological, social, political, environmental, economic, spiritual - necessary to be a successful practitioner and a conscientious citizen with a Biblical worldview. The mission of CBU Architecture is to develop architects who demonstrate professional excellence and personal integrity, are servant leaders in their communities and who live biblically-based, missional lives within the profession.

CBU’s architecture program will prepare men and women for creative, managerial and supervisory professions in the challenging world of the building industry. Upon graduation, students should be well equipped to not only successfully enter the field of architecture, but to be leaders in the industry. The construction industry has become a 500 billion dollar per year industry marked by continuous growth and dramatic change. Due to this vibrant dynamic, construction processes have become increasingly complex, placing greater emphasis on the holistic education and preparation that only architects are trained to bring to a project. Nationally, there were approximately 141,000 architectural jobs in 2008, with a median annual average of wages and salary of $72,700. Licensed architects, after gaining experience, may take on increasingly responsible duties and eventually manage entire projects. Architects may advance to supervisory or managerial positions in large firms. Some become partners in established firms while others set up their own practices. Nationally, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of architects is projected to grow by 17 percent between 2012 and 2022, faster than the average for all occupations. Prospective architects may face competition for positions at prestigious firms and for more advanced positions across the board. This emphasizes the desire for students to be able to leave school with an advanced degree, which will enhance their preparedness and marketability.
