Course Description

This program is designed to provide opportunities for those working in or seeking to enter work within the aviation and aerospace industries. This program will enable you to gain a thorough understanding of the theories and practices in aviation technology and explore the associated ethical, legal and security issues in this field. The program will introduce you to recreational flying, develop your practical flying skills and allow you to apply the aviation theory learnt throughout the program to the required skills for flying. Throughout the Associate Degree of Aviation you will study courses including aviation theory and cover topics such as aerodynamics, aircraft systems, air law, meteorology, navigation, pilot licenses and ratings, air service operations, aerodromes, airspace classifications, air traffic control and flight service and handling emergencies. You will also develop sound knowledge in mapping techniques, aviation time, charts and publications, navigation computations, pilot navigation and radio navigation, the composition of the atmosphere, heat, temperature, pressure and humidity, atmospheric stability, clouds and precipitation and many other areas. The Aviation Theory courses that form part of this degree will provide the knowledge required for you to undertake the testing for a range of pilot licenses. Successful completion of the 20 hours of flight training embedded in the program, means that you will be eligible to undertake the RA-AUS Pilot Certificate test. Upon the successful completion of your studies, graduates of the Associate Degree of Aviation may wish to apply for the Bachelor of Aviation Technology with advanced credit for the courses completed in the Associate Degree.

By studying the Associate Degree of Aviation you will have the opportunity to work for major aviation organisations in both the public and private sectors such as Jabiru, Jetstar, Hamilton Island Airlines, the Australian Air Force and the Australasian Aviation Group in roles such as aviation analyst, flight operations manager, flight scheduler, logistics operations manager and rescue operations manager. With 20 hours of flight training incorporated into this program, upon successful completion, you may be eligible to undertake the RA-AUS Pilot Certificate test.
