The Department of Biological Sciences develops critical thinkers by engaging students in active learning, individual research experiences, and interdisciplinary collaborations. Students become inquisitive scientists and informed citizens responsive to societal and economic issues. BGSU offers an impressive array of biological science programs that prepare students for success in any science field. Undergraduates in biological sciences have the kind of hands-on experience, including research projects, field study, and internships, that may be limited to graduate students at other institutions. Departmental facilities include herpetology and microbiology laboratories, an electron and light microscopy center, an ecological research station, greenhouse facilities, and a 20,000-specimen herbarium.
