This program includes in-school training requirements to complete the Assistant Cook Apprenticeship program, as defined by the Apprenticeship Branch of the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. This program is open only to employed cooks or employees, who are currently working in the service industry, have been sponsored by their employer as a registered assistant cook apprentice and who are working towards obtaining their Provincial Certificate of Qualification. Apprenticeship training is recognized as one of the most efficient methods of training and educating skilled tradespersons. Flexible in-school training options are necessary to meet the specific needs of apprentices and their training sponsor or employer. Apprentices learn to become qualified trades perople or "journeypersons" while sponsors or employers gain highly skilled employees with current knowledge and work techniques. This program is part of Algonquin's mobile learning initiative. All students entering into the program are expected to have and use a laptop or mobile computing device that meets or exceeds the recommended hardware requirements as designated by the program. Students in mobile learning programs will use their devices to enhance their learning experience, obtain and work with course materials, participate in collaborative and mlearning environments and become skilled, confident users of the technologies used within an educational environment and workplace.
