Building Engineering BSc Honours

Course Description

Building engineers are concerned with all activities involved in the creation and maintenance of the sustainable built environment. The main emphasis of their role is the technology of building, though specialisms enable them to focus on building design or the managerial aspects of the production and maintenance processes. Many building engineers also specialise in fire safety engineering. Their expertise includes a detailed understanding of the statutory control of building work. This course is designed to give you a well-rounded but technologically based education in many aspects of the built environment. You will acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to develop your career as a building engineer for a wide range of different organisations, including local authorities, contractors, consultancies and commercial companies. You will also develop the transferable and cognitive skills necessary for lifelong personal and professional development.

Graduates can progress directly towards full professional qualification with the CIOB and CABE – professional accreditation that can help you to secure employment. Our graduates have developed careers with contractors, consultancies, commercial companies, local authorities, housing associations and many other types of organisation. Others have also pursued further studies at Master's level, either on a full-time or part-time basis, typically in areas such as construction or project management.
